You can take an equine course at Kyrewood Equestrian Centre even if you have had no prior experience with horses. The Introductory and Stable Practice courses are both designed to cater for people with limited experience.

Kyrewood Equestrian Centre is registered and accredited to the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA), the Government's controller of all education. It is accredited to deliver equine courses up to Level 4, and is the only Private Training Establishment in the North Island, and one of only three in the whole of New Zealand accredited to this level. Students come to Kyrewood from all parts of the country, and also from overseas, taking NZQA courses for up to 34 weeks. The two English tutors employed to teach both the NZQA courses, and the hourly riding lessons held every weekend, are both highly qualified and outstanding in their field.

For New Zealand citizens, all full-time NZQA courses are eligible for Student Loans and Allowances, and are government subsidised.

Facilities

One of the centre's greatest assets is the wonderful team of horses and ponies used for the students and the weekend lessons. These animals have been carefully selected for their suitability for at least one aspect of the business, and many of them are schooled to meet the requirements of a variety of different levels of riding. The facilities, developed specifically for equestrian activities, include three all-weather outdoor arenas, a full cross-country course built to pre-training and training heights, sufficient surrounds to furnish five dressage arenas, and jump stands, rails and fill sufficient to produce four competition-sized showjumping courses.

The Proprietors have worked hard since accreditation in 1996 to establish the necessary facilities for this operation. Accreditation was not granted lightly and the Proprietors are always looking for new ways to improve and expand what is already a high-quality equestrian centre.

The use of all facilities is included in the course fees.
