Students have come to Kyrewood Equestrian Centre from Australia, America, Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, Japan and Mauritius. The cost of equine education in New Zealand is the lowest in the world, and international students enjoy the clean, green image of our countryside.

International students sometimes find it difficult to come to New Zealand for more than a few weeks at a time, due to family and employment commitments. It is therefore possible to arrange to study in short-course modules. This option is available only for international students, and may be arranged at any time during the year, but will depend on availability of on-site accommodation.

Sharland House is the on-site accommodation at Kyrewood Equestrian Centre. Each student has his or her private room, which is fully furnished. Kitchen, laundry, bathroom facilities are shared, and students purchase and cook their own food.

Other accommodation is available in the city of Palmerston North. The complex known as Baxters and, more recently, the brand new facility of Palmy31 are both eminently suitable for students. Both these facilities cater for a large number of international students and their amenities are first class. International students are able to book their own accommodation at these facilities if the student wishes to live in the centre of the city. Please be aware that Kyrewood is 9km from the city and not on a bus route, which is why most students prefer the on-site accommodation option, particularly for the short courses.

The equine courses conducted at Kyrewood cater for all ability levels.

The Introductory Certificate is for students who have had no experience with horses. Progress is made through to the Stable Practice course, which is ideal for people who wish to have a career in the racing industry. The Introductory and Stable Practice Certificates are both ideal courses for students to gain practical, hands-on experience with horses.

The Sporthorse Certificate provides extensive training in the disciplines of dressage, showjumping and cross-country riding. This course is for students who do not wish to enter the racing industry but wish to advance their riding skills toward competing in equestrian competitions.

The Community Coach course gives the student the practical experience and knowledge to enable them to teach riding and horsemastership in a riding school situation.

All courses are full-time - 6.5 hours each day, five days each week. They include practical lessons, classroom time and written assignments. If a course includes a riding element, the student's weekly timetable will provide many hours of riding tuition on a range of horses appropriate to the student's level of ability.

All international students must be aged 18+. Acceptance for any course is not automatic. The Directors' decision is final.

Course fees and accommodation fees must be paid prior to arrival. Travel and Medical insurance for the length of your study period must be arranged prior to arrival at Kyrewood Equestrian Centre.
